1989 is really good - feels like a rainy evening spent next to a cozy fireplace in a cabin all by my self.
Just finished S2, and I think Sympogear is just the kind of show that doesn't even need a good story to stand out - it's like an amalgam of macross, precure, kaiju, and many other awesome pieces without feeling out of place. The bond between characters that audiences deeply invest in and the amazing choreography/music are so strong that it easily powers through the arguably somewhat messy story line and just make it an enjoyable show to watch.
In someways I think the Rise of Skywalker is the example of what a less successful such attempt would look like: also a messy and overstuffed story, but TROS' other aspects are just not strong enough to overcome this and be remembered as a great emotional experience, instead, it will forever be the not-too-bad-not-too-good nonchalant attempt of an ending to a badly planned Star Wars trilogy that probably should never have existed in the first place.
I first watched Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on a flight, just rewashed it and it was even better than I remembered. Perhaps I should make that a new Christmas tradition.
